The Rev. David J. Bergner, S.D.S., Ph.D., M.S.W. was born and raised in Manitowoc, WI which is near Green Bay. In 1965 he made his first profession of vows as a Salvatorian in Colfax, IA. After completing his undergraduate studies at Mt. St. Paul College (Waukesha, WI), he would spend the next two years as a seminarian in Tanzania, East Africa before earning his masters in social work at the University of Maryland. In 1976 he was ordained to priesthood in Washington, D.C. after completing his theology at the Washington Theological Union. Father Dave would later attend The Catholic University of America from which he earned a doctorate in social work.
Father Dave served in numerous leadership posts with Catholic Charities, including regional director in the District of Columbia and Wilmington, DE, and diocesan director in Richmond, VA and Milwaukee, WI. He also ministered for two three-year terms as provincial superior for his community in addition to serving as a chaplain in the Navy Reserve for more than 20 years.
